Why Cultural Diversity? |
|
The theme of cultural diversity has been designed to foster understanding, acceptance, and constructive relations amongst TIG members who have a diverse cultural background. With over 13,000 members participating on different activities around the theme, TakingITGlobal intends to create a platform where the importance of cultural diversity is experienced. This platform will build a community that is not only aware of different cultures, but also aware of their own cultural heritage, giving them the confidence they need to realize and accept that no one culture is more important than another. The theme will focus on the impact of shared knowledge and cultural identity, and an exploration of how different cultures working together can create new ideas and solutions. The United Nations' International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination is also in March, so the month will be full of exciting activities online and off!
Engage yourself and present your culture
to the world! Below's a guide to how you can, using the various
TakingITGlobal web site features. |

Community |
Do you feel that understanding cultures and sharing knowledge
is important in today's society? If your answer is yes, you
share this ambition with many TIG members, who have expressed
an interest in learning and engaging themselves in different
cultural activities. With this month's theme there are many
ways of realizing that ambition and some suggested ways of engaging
yourself are:
- Read/view and share your thoughts on the different submitted
articles, updates and artwork posted by our members. As
you share these thoughts you are encouraged to write about
the following:
- How does the work submitted make you feel and think?
- What have you learned and understood?
- What questions come to mind with what you have viewed?
- Can you relate to what has been submitted?
- Post a discussion about the current affairs, events or
issues happening within your community that you feel are
important in achieving cultural understanding. Suggested
discussion topics could include the following:
- The importance of Cross-understanding
- Culture vs. Globalization
- How to promote cultural self awareness
- Overcoming Culture Shock
- Introduce your culture

explore further, consider developing a project with a group
of friends. Determine the key issues that you feel are important,
and work towards addressing them with your project. Some project
ideas are:
- Working with a group of people to learn
a new language or teaching a language to others
- Organizing a festival that showcases
different cultures
- Participating in existing exchange programs
or organizing an exchange
- Documenting stories that depict 'a day
in the life' of people from diverse backgrounds
Submit your project: http://projects.takingitglobal.org/
You could also introduce the theme of Cultural

Expression |
Art is a beautiful and powerful tool that is able to break the
barriers created by spoken languages. As you submit your artwork
you are able to clearly represent your thoughts and therefore
given the opportunity to showcase your culture from a perspective
unique to any other. Here are suggested topics that you could
work on for the theme cultural diversity:
- Life as I know it
- A day in the life in my community
- Events, celebrations and festivals in
my community
- My community and its people
- Send or submit designed E-Cards promoting
your culture and/or the diversity of your community.
- Involve other groups, schools, clubs
and/or organizations to have their members submit artwork
for the global gallery. Assisting local artists to expose
their work to the world is an important way of creating
opportunity.

community. Suggested topics you could write about include:
- My culture

- What I think about the world we live
in
- Issues that youth are facing today in
your country
- Activities and events happening in your
country this month
