Short Films with Music
Facilitated by: Christopher Graham in [Canada]
Subjects: Music
Starting: February 2008, project will take: 1 to 6 months
Status: Still looking
Submitted: Jan 8, 2008

Our Grade 12 Music class studies Romantic, 20th century and Film music as part of the course. We normally have a culminating activity where the students apply those studies by scoring music for either student films or clips from hollywood films.

This year, I would like to have them work with another school or schools, with our students as the composers and your students as the directors, and have them create a short film together.

This involves a few steps - your students need to have their videos or short films complete first. Then the students match up online to discuss things and the directors explain what kind of music they are looking for. My students then get to work writing music, and can consult with the directors along the way. An online "film festival" at the end would be a great finale.

Julie Lindsay
Facilitated by: Julie Lindsay in [Qatar]
Subjects: Technology
Starting: October 2007, project will take: 1 to 6 months
Status: Still looking
Submitted: Sep 21, 2007

As a follow up to the award winning Flat Classroom project (see 2006 project), educators Julie Lindsay (Qatar Academy, Qatar), Vicki Davis (Westwood Schools, Camilla, GA USA), Barbara Stefanics (Vienna International School, Vienna, Austria), and John Turner, (Presbyterian Ladies College, Melbourne, Australia) are announcing the official pre-planning of the Flat Classroom Project 2007 which will begin in October and conclude on November 30th, 2006. This year's project will incorporate a study of the ten flatteners as outlined in Thomas Friedman's book The World is Flat, and earned the project inclusion in version 3.0 of his book. (pages 501-503). This year's project includes an intentional plan to include the six senses of the conceptual age as outlined by Daniel Pink in his book A Whole New Mind.

This project already includes schools from four continents but the goal is to include schools from six continents (except Antarctica.)

Accordingly, this project will include three primary components:

1. Editing and updating previously created information (Mass Collaboration, Symphony) 2. Creating Digital Stories using the 6 senses of the conceptual age from Daniel Pink's book, A Whole New Mind 3. Post Project Reflection - Students will post their reflection on the process on the project ning.

This year's project has three primary methods of facilitating communication: 1. The Flat Classroom Wiki - This will be our product. 2. The Flat Classroom Ning (with private groups for teachers, leaders, student groups, and educators).-- This will be our connection piece that will allow us to make and cement the connections and manage the workgroups. 3. The Flat Classroom Airset to create cross-time zone calendaring.

Interested classrooms are invited to read the requirements and email flatclassroomproject@gmail.com. Participating classrooms will be announced on Tuesday, September 25th.

Facilitated by: Mrs. Meagher in [Canada]
Subjects: Technology
Starting: April 2007, project will take: 1 week or less
Status: Still looking
Submitted: Mar 15, 2007

I am looking for students, teachers, and youth leaders from around the globe to connect with my students through TIG's online classroom during our 24 hour " SURVIVOR:GALT fundraiser activity April 4-April 5. Through TIG, we have been connecting wth Mr. Moses (Batenga), a headmaster of an orphanage school in Uganda while learning of global issues such as poverty, aids, human rights.. Over 70% of the population in his community live on less than a dollar a day, and there is a 24% chance to live to the age of 30 and still be heathy . The money we fundraise will go directly to help his community. My students will be "marooned" to the gym for the 24 hours, but we will have internet access. I'd like to find others who would like to videoconference with us, talk about where they are from, what life is like in their area, compare cultures, and/or share either stories of what they are doing to make the world a better place, etc. My dream is to create memorable event where we can use the technology to make positive connections with the world while raising funds for people in need. If anyone would be willing to connect with us during this time, please contact me ASAP either through TIG or through my school email : meagherj@ped.etsb.qc.ca Thanks
